Sonablate® HIFU
However, Sonablate® HIFU is changing the game so you may not have to worry about the symptoms that may come after traditional treatments such as radiation or removal of the prostate¹.
Sonablate® HIFU is a non-invasive treatment that targets the specific area of your prostate that is impacted with disease rather than cutting out a large piece or removing the whole prostate, decreasing the chances of long-term side effects².

the Sonablate® HIFU procedure
Based on MRI, biopsy results and your individual needs, your physician will create a treatment plan for tissue that needs to be ablated (destroyed).
With pinpoint accuracy, Sonablate® HIFU will ablate only the targeted tissue, leaving the surrounding healthy tissue unharmed.
Your physician will monitor the procedure in real time, adjusting and customizing the procedure to address your individual condition.
Dealing with prostate issues can raise a ton of concerns
Finding out that you have an issue with your prostate can be a stressful experience as it can have physical, emotional, and social impacts.
It can be even more daunting when you think about the symptoms that can result after invasive prostate disease treatment.
Prostate disease can often raise questions like:
Is it benign or cancerous? What kind of symptoms will I have?
Symptoms like:
- Difficult urinating
- Frequent trips to the bathroom
- Pain or burning during urination
- Lower back pain
- Blood in the urine
While these symptoms are terrible on their own, prostate disease patients also need to consider the symptoms that may come with traditional treatment such as removal of the prostate or radiation:
- Erectile dysfunction1
- Urinary incontinence1
How It Works
The process starts with an in-depth consultation with a Sonablate® HIFU physician to determine if you are a good candidate for the procedure. The process will involve steps like going over medical history and performing laboratory tests.
You will then undergo an MRI, ultrasound, and biopsy so your physician can assess the location(s) and degree of your prostate disease. These tests are the key to getting the most precise HIFU treatment.
On procedure day, your physician will create a plan based on your MRI, ultrasound scans, and biopsy results. Your physician will map out exactly which cells should be treated and which tissue is healthy and should be left alone.
Sonablate® HIFU uses sound waves to focus energy directly at the diseased tissue. The device allows the physician to have pinpoint accuracy when ablating the prostate tissue, leaving the healthy parts of the prostate unharmed.
Constant monitoring during treatment allows your physician to make adjustments to the targeting and intensity. This makes Sonablate® HIFU one of the most customizable treatments available for prostate disease control.
After the procedure, most patients have a urinary catheter for 3-7 days. You’ll receive information about the catheter from your physician. Also, you’ll need to undergo further testing to ensure the treatment was successful. Your physician will closely monitor your progress and give you more follow-up care instructions.
